Psalm 51:17-19
17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit:
a broken and a contrite heart,
O God, thou wilt not despise.
18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion:
build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
with burnt offering and whole burnt offering:
then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
This is David's closing for his big prayer, from his adultery with Bathsheba, that we looked at yesterday. This loses up his request for cleansing with praises to God. Not only does he desire to praise God but he also wants to please God.
How do we please God? We give of our love freely - just as Jesus showed. For even if we sin much we can be forgiven if we make things aright and love much. When was the last time you wept over your sins? Thankfully our God is gracious and gave his son to be willing to forgive our sins. However, this grace is at a small price. That price is confession, a contrite heart, and amends on our part.
Thanks for letting me share.
