Psalm 75 (KJV): Unto thee, O God, we give thanks

From Psalms

Psalm 75
(For the director of music.  To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A psalm of Asaph.  A song.)

1Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks,
      unto thee do we give thanks:
      for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.

2When I shall receive the congregation
      I will judge uprightly.
3The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved:
      I bear up the pillars of it.                    Selah.
4I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly:
      and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:
5Lift not up your horn on high:
      speak not with a stiff neck.

6For promotion cometh neither from the east,
      nor from the west, nor from the south.
7But God is the judge:
      he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
8For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup,
      and the wine is red; it is full of mixture;
and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof,
      all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

9But I will declare for ever;
      I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off;
      but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

Psalm 74, although I didn't address the topic directly, asked where is God when there is great destruction and crisis in our lives.  Psalms 75 and 76 start to answer this question...you will be happy to know he is always close at hand and in control of our paths.

Sometimes, as we tended to see in Psalm 74, we have short memories when it comes to the great work of God in our lives.  We often lack the full picture and perspective of what God is doing today.  Sometimes it's this lack of perspective that makes it difficult to trust in God...and to have complete faith in his plan for our lives.

In a meeting today I was reminded where I was more than a year ago, and how out of control it was.  I realized what a great gift He has given me in my sobriety and how victorious I have been on so many levels.  I know I still have a long way to go and many things still to do.  However, being able to look back, helped give me some of that perspective.  So, unto thee, O God, I give thanks for your great works and your grace - Amen.

Thanks for letting me share.
